M.Sc BioChemistry
About The Department
Biochemistry or biological chemistry is the study of chemical processes within and relating to living organisms. Biochemistry is a branch of medicine that deals with the application of physical and organic chemistry along with biochemistry in human health and disease.
A Sub-discipline of both chemistry and biology, biochemistry may be divided into three fields: structural biology, enzymology, and metabolism.
The main objective of the Department is to equip the students and to provide an avenue for Biochemists so as to contribute substantially to the future prosperity of our community.

CARRIER OPPURTUNITIES
The Department offers a broad based multidisciplinary course guaranteeing employment in a variety of sectors viz.,
- Pharmaceutical industry
Many biochemists work for businesses in the pharmaceutical industry to help them develop modern medicines and medical devices. - Food /Beverages Industries
Biochemists work to verify correct production as well as quality and security of different food products as part of manufacturer’s laboratories, or as independent professionals. - Public Health Laboratories
Laboratory is the domain where a clinical biochemist assumes a dual and interchangeable role of a researcher and a laboratorian. Diagnosis plays a very important part in primary health care centres. - Cosmetic Industries
Biochemist might be in charge of the whole process, from product conception and a theoretical approach to the final production of the compound, which will be transferred to the final product. - Lab technician
A biochemist might take part in independent studies as well as being responsible for assisting peers in their own research, being in charge of project coordination and managing all related documentation. - Environmental Pollution Control
Biochemists helps determine the environmental causes of disease – information that can help policymakers eliminate or reduce risk, and potentially help doctors treat the conditions. - Safety and Quality Control
Biochemist is in charge of performing tests that check if the effects of pharma treatments and medicines are those desired, as part of the verification process that takes place before commercializing them. - Research Institution
Biochemist might also be hired as an assistant with the aim of contributing an additional point of view in an already existing study, reviewing results and contributing additional conclusions, helping optimize all processes in the laboratory. - Assistant Professor
Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. - Lab Assistant (College)
Setting of laboratory equipment / apparatus for smooth conduction of practicals. Able to handle lab experiments and assist faculty and students during practicals. Maintain Stock, Breakage, issue of components register and all other lab related documents.
